А Скрубиус Пип обретался вдали
Под древом на береге Джелиболи.
Все мушки-букашки земли
Вкруг Пипа узоры плели.
Жуки и… глаза велики,
Москиты, термиты, другие жучки,
Кузнечики, бабочки и пауки,
Осы, пчёлы, стрекозы, легки,
Когда же москиты устроили гам,
запрыгал, как унылый там-там,
Головкой вертя, всяк желал как-нибудь
На Пипа на Скрубиуса да взглянуть.
Воззвали они к Муравью тогда:
"Вы мудрее всех нас! Вы мудрейший, о да!
Ползите к Пипу, молите его
Рассказать о себе, не тая ничего,
Ибо нам не понять ни потом, ни теперь -
Рыба он, Насекомое, Птица ли, Зверь".
А Скрубиус Пип огляделся вокруг
И спел, издавая свистящий звук:
"Виззеби вип; Виззеби вип,
Я Скрубиус Пип, просто Скрубиус Пип".

И все животные твари земли
Тогда хоровод круговой завели,
Пернатых несметные стаи
По небу кругами летали,
А рыбы, живущие в Джелиболи,
Кругами по морю пошли,
А букашек густые стада
С гуденьем летали туда и сюда.
И рычанье, и пенье, и шум тот, и гам
Было слышно и тут, слышно было и там:
"Чиппетти тип! Чиппетти тип!
Он Скрубиус Пип, просто Скрубиус Пип!"
"Cold are the crabs that crawl on yonder hills…"

A pea-green gamut on a distant plain
When wily walrusses in congresses meet -
Such such is life -
