As a result of it about ten police officers were wounded, and forty-five year-old Sergeant of police Pienchai Paravat of Rayong province died from wounds to the chest. In addition, three civilians were killed innocently and 64 people were injured. In connection with this sad event the Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) organized the collection of donations for the families of the deceased and wounded police officers. The first who responded to this appeal, were Russian citizens living in the cities of Hong Kong and Pattaya. We transferred to the chief of police of the province of Chonburi the General Catch Tartcart the collected donations for the victims in the amount of 50 thousand bahts.4

When the Vice-President of the IPA Alexander Sheludko made a friendly visit to the Chonburi province’s most famous city Pattaya, he met with the Director and the Confessor of the Representation. It should be noted that the Representation holds a great religious, public and social work with compatriots living in Thailand. Accordingly, the Archimandrite Oleg was awarded by the Mayor’s office of Pattaya and by the administration of the Police of the Kingdom of Thailand for participating in the project "Pattaya community safety". Only in the last year and a half the Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepenin) helped more than one hundred citizens of Russia who were in difficult situations.
The Representation organized and held a range of events dedicated to the history, culture, and art of Russia. So, on the eve of Victory Day in Russia was organized concerts of masters of Opera`s singing from the Bolshoi theatre, and a photo show in the monastery in Pattaya.5

The Representation carries out charitable activities. For example, in May 2014, a charity event was held on the island of Samui, "Let`s help the children of Samui" at the school Baan Haad Ngam in the region of Chaweng, with the support of the local community of the Ascension Church, and the representatives of the Russian business community. Stationery, accessories for creativity, library books from the series of the world classical literature in English, and Thai languages, and sports equipment were transferred to the school.
There was also provided financial help to pay for meals for all students and the best students received cash awards. Teachers were presented with "The Law of God" edited by the Dean Seraphim Slobodskoy, and the History of the Christian Church, the new issue of the newspaper "Orthodox Thailand", in which there is an informational application for Thais translated by the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church (the Moscow Patriarchate) in Thai.
The charity event was timed to the anniversary of the 700-year anniversary since the birth of the reverend Sergiy Radonejskiy6. Charity of the Representation is a response to the troubles of Thailand. So on October 18, 2011 the Committee members of the Fund of the Orthodox Church in Thailand were informed on the situation of the flooding in Thailand at the meeting in the presence of the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand the Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), as well as a number of invited experts. They discussed actions of the possible participation in the relief efforts.

As a result of the following discussion it was unanimously resolved:
1. To form a working group to render assistance to victims of floods, including:
• The Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand, – the Chairman of the group;
• The priest Danai (Daniel) Vanna, Chairman of the Committee of the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand, – the Deputy of the Chairman of the working group;
• The hierodeacon Seraphim Rachea) – the member of the working group;
• Ivan Moros – the assistant of the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand – the Secretary of the working group;
• Promethea (Paraskeva) Chaxhuraxa – the legal Advisor of the working group.
2. To impose on the working group the organization and coordination of assistance to flood`s victims.
3. To allot for the assistance to victims of floods the sum of 60,000 Thai baht.
4. To call all parishes of the Orthodox Church in Thailand to support this initiative of the Fund of the Orthodox Church in Thailand".7

All of these activities and social activities contribute to the formation of a positive image of the Representation in the eyes of the representatives of the state and the society of Thailand.
2 глава. Направления современной православной миссии в Таиланде
§ 1. Миссия среди русскоязычного населения
После распада Советского Союза и открытия границ, многие россияне и жители бывших союзных республик стали пробовать найти свое место в других странах. Среди них были те, кто избрал местом своей жизни Таиланд. С середины 1990-х годов в адрес Святейшего Патриарха Московского и всея Руси и в Отдел внешних церковных связей Московского Патриархата стало поступать большое количество писем с просьбой о духовном окормлении православных верующих, проживающих и работающих в Королевстве Таиланд.1

Как вспоминал о начале своего служения в Королевстве в 2011 году архимандрит Олег (Черепанин), "это был конец 1990-х годов; тогда в Таиланд стали приезжать русские, чтобы заниматься бизнесом. В России тогда было очень тяжело, а в Таиланде можно было неплохо жить. Но наших храмов на огромных просторах Юго-Востока – от России до Австралии – не было. По-моему, был только единственный православный храм в Гонконге, да и тот был не в юрисдикции Московского Патриархата. Открытие прихода в Таиланде – это исключительно инициатива русских, проживающих в этой стране".2
2 Сложно ли молиться в тропическом раю…
Русскоязычных прихожан в Таиланде можно условно разделить на три группы.
Первая из них – это те, кто всю жизнь ходили в храм, для них ничего не изменилось и в новой стране.
Другая группа – те, кто живя в России не были верующими. У них приход к Православию бывает связан с ностальгией. У некоторых на второй-третий год тоска по Родине может принимать изнуряющие формы. Таким людям нужна точка опоры, и они обретают ее, придя в Церковь.
Третья группа – те, кто попал в Таиланд в том числе и из интереса к буддизму, но потом в результате духовных поисков перешли от него к Православию.3

Одной из форм распространения православной миссии среди русскоязычного населения в Королевстве Таиланд являются воскресные школы. К 2013 году они функционировали при приходах в Патайе, о. Пхукете и на о. Самуи. Воскресные школы ориентированы, в первую очередь, на русскоязычных детей, оказавшихся в своего рода "культурной изоляции". Представляет интерес, как видят значение этих учреждений преподаватели воскресной школы во имя преподобного Сергия при храме Вознесения Господня на о. Самуи.
Анна Труфанова, преподаватель творчества и проектной деятельности так раскрывала свой взгляд на проблему: "Открытие православной воскресной школы вдали от России, в стране с другой, чуждой нам религией, конечно, была очень хорошей новостью. Занятия в школе откроют новые духовные горизонты не только перед детьми, но и перед взрослыми. Далеко от Родины мы встречаемся с большими трудностями и самое важное в такие моменты не потерять себя, веру в Бога, не забыть в себе человека, старающегося жить по заповедям. Я не знаю как в других странах мира, но в Таиланде, где дети, к сожалению, очень ограничены в изучении родного языка, литературы, истории своей страны, ее традиций, религии на воскресную школу возлагается большая ответственность не только по духовной, но и по интеллектуальной образованности будущего поколения".4

Во многом схоже и видение вопроса Анной Гужавиной, преподавателем истории России и Церкви: "Воскресная школа призвана быть носительницей русской культуры, лучших ее традиций. Она должна являться центром не просто образовательным, но и, в первую очередь, воспитательным, быть моральным и нравственным стержнем для всей семьи. Я думаю, что воскресные школы в Таиланде и России отличаются прежде всего тем, что воскресная школа за рубежом не просто решает образовательные и воспитательные задачи и является не только центром духовного и нравственного развития, но и прежде всего объединяющим центром для людей единой культуры, помогающим сохранить для детей грамотную речь на родном языке, привить им любовь к русской литературе, развить национальное самосознание".5

– Я был рукоположен в священники, и мне предложили отправиться служить в Таиланд, – рассказывает он.
