Liverpool was founded in 1207 by King John, but it wasnt until the 18th century that the city began to prosper as a major trading port. The River Mersey allowed Liverpool to become an important hub for trade with Europe, America and Africa. During this time, many merchants and entrepreneurs grew wealthy from Liverpools booming trade, and the wealth they generated helped to fund many of the citys famous landmarks, including St Georges Hall, The Royal Liver Building, and the Albert Dock.
One of the most famous landmarks in Liverpool is the Beatles Story Museum, located at the Albert Dock. The museum celebrates the life and music of the legendary band, who formed in Liverpool in the early 1960s.
